The Sound of Plants Drawing Workshop

Join us for an immersive exploration into the fascinating relationship between art, technology, and nature at IOU’s September workshop, “The Sound of Plants”. Led by artist Pippa Tuffin, the session delves into the hidden world of plant communication through drawings and sounds.

What to expect
Set in the serene surroundings of IOU Creation Centre Hostel in Hebden Bridge with its wildflower garden terrace and woodlands for a unique plant-inspired experience.  Using experimental plant wave technology, tune in to the live sounds of plants  – subtle electrical activity transformed into music, creating a unique soundscape for meditation and drawing.

Under Pippa’s guidance, take a journey of detailed observation as you sketch the intricate textures and shapes of the flora surrounding you. From individual plant studies through to whole compositions inspired by the symphony of plant sounds as they play around you. 

Sharing
After the workshop there will be an opportunity to share drawings and insights with the rest of the group to make creative connections with nature. Throughout the session, there will be natural teas, cocoa drinks, and snacks to encourage a meditative state and deeper connection to the natural elements.

Accessibility
No prior experience is required and all materials are provided. The hostel is fully accessible with disabled parking and within a 15-minute walk from Hebden Bridge Train Station.
