Exhibition by Artist in Residence Georgia D’Silva
No.182

Titled No.182, reflecting the number of days Georgia has lived in the Calder Valley community the exhibition features a collection of miniature dioramas of houses and homes in Hebden Bridge.

This interdisciplinary installation combines sculpture from reclaimed materials with audiovisual elements, offering audiences an immersive journey into the heart of a community.

Created from reclaimed cardboard, clays and acrylics, each diorama is a replica of a home in Hebden Bridge and will be on display in the Hostel’s Snug, against the stunning backdrop of Nutclough Woods

Opening Times:
You can visit No.182  Mon- Sun 12-3pm until Wednesday 27 November 2024
Except for  4-6 October, 14-18 October and 8-10 November when the Hostel is closed for a Private Hire.

“Soon after arriving in Hebden Bridge, through researching and talking to locals, I became very intrigued by its history as a former mill town, how Hebden became the place it is today, what it is that attracted & currently attracts people here, the way of life, the effect of tourism, and locals’ perspectives of ‘The Valley’. I wanted to see if my experience & viewpoint as an excitable newcomer was similar to that of those who call Hebden home”.

Each sculpture was created through Georgia’s connections with local residents who allowed her into their homes to replicate them in miniature and participated in one-to-one interviews. Sound recordings from these interview add an auditory layer to the visual exhibition.
