Yorkshire Sculpture Park presents IOU’s Sound Wave Collider as part of this summer’s  Curiosity and Wonder programme

Sound Wave Collider is a multi-sensory, immersive, site-specific sound installation devised by our Artistic Director, David Wheeler, with a unique commissioned soundscape for Yorkshire Sculpture Park by sound artist Jason Singh.

This new outdoor sculptural sound installation captures the hidden sounds of plants, organisms and structures of the surrounding landscape, creating a resonating sound world, unique to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

The five gleaming steel structures create a vibrating three-dimensional environment for audiences to explore and move among, as they listen to the collision of interconnecting sounds.

Touch, listen, feel, and contemplate the surroundings in this unique and moving experience.

Creating the soundscape

IOU has commissioned Jason Singh to apply his ongoing work of presenting new ways of listening to the natural environment, architecture and the living organisms that inhabit our earth to the Sound Wave Collider installation.

His work also explores class, racial equality, migration, ecological apartheid and identity. Recent  commissions include Sir David Attenborough, BBC, V&A Museum, Kew Gardens, to name a few.

Using an array of specialist recording equipment, Jason spent five days collecting sounds from across the park; from trees, shrubs, fungi, and deep in the lake, to the sound resonance of its buildings and famous sculptures to create an evocative sound piece.

I am super pleased to announce that my new sound works for the immense Sound Wave Collider installation will be launching Saturday 15th July at Yorkshire Sculpture Park as part of their Curiosity and Wonder festival. In August I will also be DJ’ing at the Family Rave and taking folks on sound walks around the site. It is a huge honour for me to have my sound creations at YSP. It is a place I love dearly and a dream come true to have my work exhibited amongst many great artists from around the world. My thanks go to @ioutheatre for commissioning the project and to @yspsculpture for giving me full access to the site over the 5 day residency. It was an incredibly special time to create, think, explore, discuss, wander and interrogate my processes. Huge thanks to @limitedheadroom for mixing the audio
