Our Spaces For Artists

At the IOU Creation Centre, Dean Clough and the IOU Hostel, Hebden Bridge

IOU has a variety of spaces where artists can work, collaborate and develop projects.

Our primary space is 626m2 of workshops, studio and galleries at the IOU Creation Centre, Dean Clough, Halifax.

In addition the 40 bed IOU Hostel provides accommodation for artists working in our studio, flexible spaces for meetings and workshops, as well as offering a chance to relax in the surrounding gardens and woodlands.

The Studio

The large, light studio and workshop is suitable for all types of creative activities and over the years this space has seen a wide variety of artists using it to develop their work – for rehearsals,  R&D, workshops and performances. The studio has been home to large scale installations, stone carving workshops, sound installations as well as the iconic
IOU Rear View Bus.

IOU Creation Centre Hostel, Hebden Bridge

With 14 rooms sleeping up to 40 guests  the IOU Hostel provides space for artists to relax, plan a project, hold rehearsals or team away days – all set in the vibrant town of Hebden Bridge, surrounded by stunning gardens and woodlands and set close to the Pennine Way.

For artists and creatives working in our Dean Clough studio and workshops it provides accessible overnight accommodation in private or shared rooms, all ensuite.

The Hostel is also home to IOU’s Artist in Residence -The Artist in Residency opportunity is open to artists specialising in any art form and interested in IOU’s approach. The 6 month residency includes living rent and bill free in a self contained artist apartment to develop their practice and create an art project in response to their time spent living at the Hostel.
