The Salon- Curlew Sickle Moon

Rattan, Projection, Soundscape

Historically, a flock of curlews has been known as a Salon, a Curfew, or a Skein.  Folk tales recount the curlew’s distinct sickle-shaped beaks, reminiscent of a new moon.

Featuring soundscapes, projected imagery, and sculptural forms, the immersive installation of the  Curlew’s annual journey from the Morecambe coast to the moorlands of Calderdale moorlands prompts reflection on human impact on nature.

Produced by Sue Walpole in collaboration with soundscape artist Jo Kennedy and audio-visual artist John Bonner – with special thanks to Billie Klinger
